Debating.
Coláiste
Bríde have a strong and proud tradition of debating and our students have
participated at the highest level both in Irish and English. In February 2006 two students Martina O
Brien and Sinead Blake got through to the Leinster Debating Semi Finals.
There
are many students both at senior and junior level competing in internal and
external competitions. The main junior
competition is the AIB Leinster Cup in which many students have competed over
the years. At senior level there is a
greater variety of competitions to choose from such as the Denny, Mace and
Concern debates.

Choir and Orchestra.
All pupils have an opportunity to join one of our school
choirs or the school orchestra and we are proud to note that in recent years
many of our pupils have had the privilege of performing brilliantly in the
National Concert Hall on several occasions.
Young Social Innovators.
This project is
designed for Transition Year students who want to make a difference in their
community. 21 students in my year took
part in this year’s project which we decided to do on Breast Cancer. We knew
that by doing our project on Breast Cancer we would be able to create more
awareness and therefore make more of a difference to this growing illness.

Greenflag Committee.
The Green Flag Committee was founded in January
2004 and Coláiste Bríde was certified as a ‘Green School’ by An Taisce in
2005. The Green Schools Environmental
Education Programme is designed to promote and acknowledge responsible
behaviour among the school population and the wider community towards the
environment. The 2005/2006 committee is
made up of 40 students, 3 teachers and the caretaking staff. So far this year the Green Flag Committee
has:
1.
Set up recycling points in the new school
building.
2.
Promoted litter separation with a view to
increased recycling.
3.
Recycled batteries, ink cartridges, plastic
bottles, cardboard, paper etc.
4.
Raised environmental awareness among fellow
students through posters, competitions and workshops.
5.
Arranged for the recycling of waste computer
materials from the old school building.
The Green Flag Committee would like to thank all staff and
students who have collaborated with us in keeping Coláiste Bríde a Green
School.

Maths Club.
The Maths Club for 2nd and 5th
has been up and running now since September with Ms Broderick. The club members
meet at lunch time on Tuesdays. They have recently been responsible for the
decoration of room M1 with mathematical posters with funds raised from the October’s
cake sale. Games involving logic and sums show the members of the club that
maths also has a fun side!

In addition to educational outings within the country, one or two exciting overseas trips are organised annually. Each year a senior trip goes skiing during the February midterm break and there is also a junior trip travelling to different countries each year including France in 2005 and Spain at Easter 2006.
As well as these trips abroad there are various trips to
Donegal for French Adventure Weekends where students mix learning with various
activities such as abseiling and canoeing.
See News Section for details on recent trips.
